C: Did they come to Mt. Mitake?
Large sign: Mt. Mitake Station
Smaller sign (just below): Cable Car Boarding Platform
C: An Impressive Shrine
Adult Penguin-san: I want to stop by [the shrine], but let's save our stamina for climbing the mountain today.
-
Koupen-chan: Not pushing yourself is great~!
-
Bottom: There are many slopes to climb on the way here, so you get quite exhausted...
C: Small Steps
Adult Penguin-san: You really can't hear anything but the chirping of birds and the sound of all the tree leaves rustling, huh~
-
Koupen-chan: It's a strange feeling...
C: A short break at Nagao-daira (Nagao Plateau)
Adult Penguin-san: There's plum onigiri, salmon, and kelp... And there's also some chewy red bean rice for after, okay~
-
Koupen-chan: This one has hot dogs inside~! Yaaay!!
C: Hiking Schedule
Adult Penguin-san: Koupen-chan, it's time to think of a strategy! Right now, we're here at Nagao Plateau
-
Koupen-chan: Huh? It looks like we passed by the summit on accident, doesn't it?~
-
Adult Penguin-san: It looks like the impressive shrine from earlier is located at the summit~
Adult Penguin-san: Today I want to go by Nanayo Falls and the Rock Garden. We have to go up and down, so let's take it easy, okay!
-
Koupen-chan: Okaaay~! I'm excited to see the falls~
C: Observe, Moss!
C: Adventure
Top to bottom, right to left:
Challenging yourself is great~! (with stairs)
Downward path...
Step by step, and surely...
Inserting breaks is great~...
Moss
Adult Penguin-san: It's rather hard to get there...
UWOOOH~
Koupen-chan: Amazing...!
C: If it's the two of us, we'll be okay
Adult Penguin-san (thinking): There's no sign of anyone ahead or behind us, and I'm getting a bit disheartened...
-
Koupen-chan (singing): You are super~ hanamaru~ You're great~ today, too~ I know how hard you work all the time~
Koupen-chan (singing): I'll give you a hanamaru~ Here's a regular hanamaru and another extra-large hanamaru~
Adult Penguin-san (thinking): That's a nice song
C: Takki Taki na Nanayo no Taki (Nanayo Falls)
Adult Penguin-san: W-we're here~!!
Koupen-chan: Yaaaay~!
C: A short rest with just the two of them...?
SFX: vsssssshhh...
Tired and taking a nap --> (Koupen-chan)
Adult Penguin-san: It's a small waterfall, but I'm really glad we came
Other Adult Penguin-san (red-hat/left-side): Is that so?
C: Adult's Conversation
Panels are read right to left, top to bottom.
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/right-side): Of course! Although there's a waterfall, there's a quiet and peaceful atmosphere!
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/right-side): To think I wasn't going to see it if I didn't come down here; it makes me appreciate it that much more... Nanayo Falls...!!
-
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/right-side): ...Who are you?
Adult Penguin-san (red hat/left side): That's some amazing enthusiasm
SFX: vsssshh...
Koupen-chan: Zzz...
Note: The brown/orange hat/right-side Adult Penguin-san is the original one or the one who accompanied Koupen-chan. The red hat/left-side one is the new character.
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 2)
Rurutea: “(Sorry for not being able to update during May~! 🙇♀️)“
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/right-side): Hah... Sorry! I accidentally ranted... You came here to see Nanayo Falls too, did you not~
Koupen-chan: Zzzz...
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/right-side [not shown]): I'm really happy I got to see such a pretty waterfall... Oops, I spoke too much.
Adult Penguin-san (red hat/top speech bubble): It's that nice of a waterfall?
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/bottom speech bubble [not shown]): Yeah! (Hm!)
Koupen-chan: mumble mumble (munya....)
Adult Penguin-san (brown hat/right-side [not shown]): Oh? Koupen-chan... They're sleeping quite soundly, aren't they...
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 3)
Adult Penguin-san: We had planned on looking around the Rock Garden after this, but… As you can see, both of us are more worn out than I expected…
Adult Penguin-san: I’m thinking we will just turn back here for today.
Adult Penguin-san: Haven’t you ever wished, “it sure would be nice to have unlimited stamina…”? Hehe. Here, have some chewy red bean rice.
Other Adult Penguin-san: And what if you stayed on this mountain forever?
Translator’s Note
I was originally waiting for the next set of images for some more context to be certain about the translation of the last image, but it’s already been 6 days, so I wanted to get this out sooner than later. If it turns out I made a mistake contextually, I will fix it (and update this note). Thank you for your understanding!
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 4)
Adult Penguin-san (right): Oh my goodness
Other Adult Penguin-san (left): The waterfall, you like it, don’t you?
Adult Penguin-san: That would be wonderful, but I can't just do something like that. munch munch...
Adult Penguin-san: The mountain isn’t going anywhere. I’ll build up my stamina and come back! (Hmm!)
Other Adult Penguin-san: Why are you going back home?
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 5)
Adult Penguin-san: “Why”...? Ah! You must mean that you’re still going to go look around the mountain after this, is that right?
Adult Penguin-san: I’m so jealous! If I could fly at a time like this, wouldn’t that be convenient? Ufufu
Waterfall: Vssshhh
Adult Penguin-san: In spite of appearances, it’s my dream to soar through the sky! I’m still training every day…
Other Adult Penguin-san: If you gained the ability to fly, would you stay here for me?
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 6)
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): I will grant you the ability to soar through the skies.
Adult Penguin-san: Oh my goodness~!! Those are such cool wings! So you can fly in the sky!
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): Do you require wings?
Adult Penguin-san: Nope!
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 7)
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): If you miss this chance, you won't be able to fly for your whole life.
Adult Penguin-san: That may be true… but my dream is to be able to fly through my own efforts.
Adult Penguin-san: I haven't been able to fly until now, but maybe I'll be able to tomorrow. And if not tomorrow, maybe the day after that… So I don't need wings!
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): Come on, stay here forever.
Adult Penguin-san: Oh my, my… Shall we come here together another time?
Koupen-chan: flop
C: Adult’s Conversation (part 8)
rustle rustle…
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): !
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): (thinking: It suddenly got dark)
Adult Penguin-san: If I’m not mistaken…
Koupen-chan: munyafu… (mumble mumble…)
looooom… (TN: To loom means “to appear in an impressively great or exaggerated form”)
pichichi… (either flapping sounds or the sounds of birds squawking)
Adult Penguin-san: I take it that you’re a huge fan of Mt. Mitake, is that right?
Polar Bear-san: Do not trouble Adult Penguin-san.
Other Adult Penguin-san (???): sweating
C: Break’s over!
SFX: fwoosh
Adult Penguin-san: Oh?
Koupen-chan: *blinking*
Adult Penguin-san: I wonder if they went to see the rock garden… I will also go there next time!
Koupen-chan: Nnn! I took a nap so I feel better~
Adult Penguin-san: That’s great! Well, shall we get going soon, then?
Koupen-chan: Adult-san, was Polar Bear-san here just a moment ago?
Adult Penguin-san: Polar Bear-san isn't here, you know
C: Returning by a different route
C: Turning Point, Tengu-iwa (Tengu Rock)
Adult Penguin-san: It say it's called "Tengu Rock"!
Koupen-chan: Tengu-san!
Koupen-chan: Is there really a Tengu-san?
Adult Penguin-san: Fufufu, Koupen-chan. I think that's a story people made up long ago.
Adult Penguin-san: If they really did exist... Wouldn't that be a bit scary?...
Cannot handle scary stories --> (Adult Penguin-san)
Koupen-chan (out of frame): Oh, okay~
More about Tengu-iwa
You can see a photograph and read a bit about Tengu-iwa on Mt. Mitake here: https://www.omecci.jp/ome-okutama/mitake/en/sightseeing/tengu_iwa.html
C: Happy Mealtime!
“(I accidentally wrote ‘ropeway’, but it should say ‘cable car.’ 🙇♀️)”
TN: I will translate with that correction in mind.
Adult Penguin-san: Let’s relax and eat until the cable car arrives!
Koupen-chan: Yay~
Top right: Tororo Soba (Buckwheat noodles with grated yam)
Bottom left: Curry Rice
Koupen-chan: Huh? Adult-san, you have some red bean rice stuck to your cheek!
Adult Penguin-san: Oh my, when did that get there!
Adult Penguin-san (thinking): I wonder if the person from earlier is eating the chewy red bean rice right about now… Sigh… I forgot to ask for their name…
Koupen-chan: The curry is delicious-!
C: Thank you for your mountainous effort!
Sign: Waterfall Main Station (Takimoto Station)
Koupen-chan: Descending a mountain is amazing~!
Adult Penguin-san: You put in lots of effort, didn’t you!
Koupen-chan: I had sooo much fun~ Next time, let’s go even farther! Uwooh!
Adult Penguin-san: Fufu, that’s right
Adult Penguin-san: Let’s take care on our way home~
Koupen-chan: Okay~! It’s great to be careful going home~!
Polar Bear-san: Mhm nods
Tengu-san: munch munch … It’s been about 200 years since I’ve had red bean rice, huh…

Translator’s Note
I translated the tree’s sign using the zoomed-in image on this webpage as a reference: https://tokyogrown.jp/nature/detail?id=571950
I was able to find this page using @love_nuigurumi_’s help and Googling the bit they read for me. Thank you!
Translator Notes:
Pretty sure the takki taki na Nanayo no Taki is just a reverse consonant play on what Rurutea did with Nachi Falls in the following tweet. Googling around for takki taki or takitaki doesn’t seem to bring up anything meaningfully related.
