Translator Notes

花丸 (はなまる) hanamaru literally means an encircled flower (see the red marks in the image above), and in Japan, it’s the equivalent of a gold star given to children for a good job. I have two choices here: say hanamaru in a direct transliteration or say gold star. Since Hanamaru is used a lot for Koupen-chan and related merchandise/collaborations, I decided to keep it literal to maintain that connection, and explain the meaning. In addition, since this is an image translation and there are no literal gold stars in the image, it feels weird to translate it that way in this context.

Note on C

Man I struggled to read that one! I confused part of the kanji for hiragana, but finally read it as 跳ね返す (hanekaesu), which means to repel or to bounce back (Jisho).
